Reading Response Week #4

First Reading Response of Week #4

In response to Mark Halliday's "Dorie Off to Atlanta". I liked this in class exercise, I found it extremely entertaining to write a one sided conversation... especially since Adam and I have such interesting ones. But I found it extremely easy. I like doing it but there is no challenge in it at all. I keep reading "Dorie Off to Atlanta" to see if I am missing the bigger picture or the underlying message but I can't find one. Writing a one sided conversation doesn't give me a satisfying feeling (like writing my book) because it is something anyone can do and do well. A kid in first grade could do the same thing with very little challenge. In an unfairly harsh way I find it crazy that Halliday can get published for something so simple... I know all of his stuff is not like this but still... It's just shocks me. But since this exercise was so easy for me I started using it to help me free write. Usually I edit my poems in my head so they are never very long and I will never touch them again once I'm "finished" but this helps me get a lot on the paper so I can contract later. It has not yielded anything I would claim yet but I'm crossing my fingers anyways.
