Random Impulse

First Random Impulse from Week #4

So this isn't exactly a "random" impulse because it's I wrote in class today... but I figured I could get away with it anyways. Go me.

------------------------------------------
The Gamer's Fiance:

Hey Baby! What are you doing?
Huh? What did you say?
Will you stop shooting people for five seconds and talk to me.
And take me off speaker too
It makes you sounds like you’re in a cave five-hundred feet aw-
I’m doing wonderful!
How are you, my love?
What…
You invited her over for dinner?
Have you even opened the refrigerator today?
Yeah, exactly.
What were you planning to feed her?
Hard cider and port wine cheese?
That’s not even funny,
Well maybe just a little…
So you stopped shooting people but now you’re
Flying your drake through Stormwind?
Yes, I know you’re excited you can finally do it.
Yes, I’ll do a dungeon with you when I get home
IF
You go pick up food for dinner.
She is your mother.
Deal.
But you are totally tanking.
Fine, fine.
I’m going to beat you.
Yeah, well that is what you get for inviting your mom over.
Love you too – Feed the cats!
I can hear Drillbit’s “I’m hungry” meow.
I don’t care of you are pwning a rogue that stealthed you,
Do it now. Now. You still haven’t done it!
I know, but I also know you still haven’t done it yet.
Okay, bye!

Reading Response Week #3

Second Reading Response from Week #3

My Friend's Divorce: By Naomi Shihab

To me this is an extremely emotional poem. It's not one that suppose to be read in a soft, slow voice. When I read it I feel like I need to be frustrated, on the brink of a chaotic emotional break down... Like every line is short because the amount of emotion in each line makes up for the lack of words. I really like that about this poem! Plus, it's turning an ugly subject, like divorce, and turning it into flowers. You never see the word "divorce" in the poem or any of the words we put on the board when the class was discussing emo poetry. Just flowers and a garden, something completely unrelated to what most would call a life changing event. "Plant them in her new yard... and see how they breath" when they had been taken out of the reach of oppression. The friend wants to get the divorcee out of those oppression hands, but instead of saying "Oh! My desperate friend in need!" she talks about digging up flowers. Uprooting and movement, instead of desperation and sappy crap.

Classmate Response Week #3

 Poem By: Angela Lewis

E goes and leaves I behind
E goes on and on and on and
So it goes
Egos

Main E yaks
The man, he yaks
Maniac

Man i ache a little
Maniacal
E goes on and on and on and...

---------------------------------------------------

First, I'd like to say that this is the first poem I've read by a student in this class where I had to really read it twice before it clicked... (I'm naturally blonde and a little slow)...  It's so simple, in a way, but yet so complex. It's short, but meaningful. I also love the fact that you can totally tell from her writing that she is a psychology major. She pulls her interests into her art. She has set her hooks into something brilliant, I just wish there was more. This is a brilliant poem as it is now but I think she could develop it into something even better.

Reading Response Week #3

Writing Poetry: Style

I like Davidson’s idea of style being a process, something that develops with progression and a form of movement. By Hemingway saying that “what amateurs call a style is usually only the unavoidable awkwardness in first trying to make something that has not heretofore been made” I feel like he is accurately labeling an ugly process. I don’t feel like I’ve developed any pronounced kind of style in my writing and I feel like that because I still have hair. The thought of “going shopping” for a poet’s style has very accrued to me because I usually, rather desperately, try to avoid reading poetry. I guess for the sake of developing my own style I should probably start.   I can only imagine that it’s very rare for an ‘amateur’ writer to touch pen(cil) to paper for the first time and have a style like Gertrude Stein.

Random Impulse

Second Random Impulse of Week #3

This is just a random free write...
----------------------------------------------------------

“Have you ever seen a murder victim before?” The question was so simple. A ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer but the confliction in his eyes was apparent, even in the dark. He was a rookie, just graduated college and landed a job he thought would be the start to a great career. He couldn’t have been more wrong.
Studying a corpse in a classroom-like setting gives the student no insight whatsoever into the real world. In a classroom the body has no name. It has no background; no loved ones left behind, no pets, no car… nothing. It’s just a body donated to science, lying on a mortuary table. The body will have already been washed and prepared for the students. And it was most likely scented soap so the students wouldn’t have to even experienced the smell of a preserved body.  In the real world, they have names. They have people that care about them, they have families and every day I have to look those people in the face and explain to them that the person they care about will never come home. And most of the time I have to do it more than once a day. Maybe Wal-Mart is hiring?
“I’ve never seen one in the field before.” Ugh. The rookie had no idea what he was about to experience but I did and I hated my boss for it.  I didn’t have time to babysit and catch bad guys.
I pulled two cotton balls out of a pocket on my handy-dandy utility belt and handed them to him as we started getting a little closerto the body. “You’ll want these.”
“Will it be that bad?” He questioned, already sticking them in his nostrils.
“Yes.” No reason to sugarcoat the dead, they’ll still be dead and you will just have a horrible taste in your mouth.
The rookie just nodded, his eyes avoiding the very thing we were walking towards. Everyone handles their first murder differently. He wasn’t doing too badly so far but we were still a few hundred feet away and I’d been thoroughly disappointed before. I wouldn’t get my hopes up until I got back to my front door with clean shoes.

Random Impulse

First Random Impulse of Week #3

This is the result from class today...

All I have to say is... I know and I'm sorry! ^.^

---------------------------------------------------

Boiling oil burns. Brightly burning blisters on barnacles. Barnacles boil blisters that burn brightly. Brightly biting the brain's boiling oil blunders. Blunders of blisters brightly blend the brains. Brains on beer burn boiling oil's blended bits. Bits of brain bash beaches as brightly burning blisters bite. Bite bird's brains bashed on beaches, before brightly burning blistered bankrupt bridges. Bridges bite birds. Birds biting blunder blenders boiling in blistering oil. Oil blistered bird's brightly burning bite blundered brains on beer. Beered beards bare barnacles on bankrupt bridges. Bridge's bright beaches blended burned birds, burying biting barnacles in a boiling oil boat blunder. Blundering biting birds blister in burning oil, brightly burdening blundered brains before backing bitchy biologists.

Junkyard Quotes Week #3

I've watched a lot of Top Gear this week... So I'm sorry to say it (actually, not really) but all of my junkyard quotes this week are Stig quotes. No quotes are more random or entertaining! Enjoy!

1. "They say he only knows two facts about ducks and they are both wrong."

2. "Some say he never blinks, and that he roams around the woods at night foraging for wolves."

3. "Some say that his genitals are on upside down, and that if he could be bothered, he could crack the Da Vinci Code in 43 seconds."

4. "Some say that each of his toenails are exactly the same as a woman's nipples, and that he thinks that "credit-crunch" is some kind of a breakfast cereal."

5. "Some say it's impossible for him to wear socks. And he can open a beer bottle with his testes."

..... All we know is, he's called the Stig
